ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The trauma center at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center has been verified by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This achievement recognizes the trauma center’s dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.
The ACS Committee on Trauma promotes the development of trauma centers that not only provide the hospital resources necessary for trauma care, but also provide the entire spectrum of care to address the needs of all injured patients. Furthermore, the committee’s verification program provides confirmation that a trauma center has demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for all injured patients.
OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center sought this verification voluntarily. ACS verification means that all care associated with the OSF Saint Anthony trauma program, including virtually every department, from Lifeline ambulance and helicopter to the emergency department and neuro-trauma intensive care unit to infection control, is recognized as one of the best in the nation. In fact, OSF Saint Anthony is one of only two Illinois hospitals that have achieved ACS trauma center verification. The other Illinois hospital is Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
