POPLAR GROVE (WIFR) -- A Poplar Grove family who lost almost everything in a house fire on Thanksgiving Day is now getting some help this holiday season.

North Boone Middle School students helped raise over $1,400 for the Matthas family, whose daughter attends the school. The money was raised from donations by other students, as well as, from Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Belvidere and the United Methodist Church in Rockford.

Amanda Matthas says she's going to use part of the money the school raised to buy Christmas presents for her children.

"They have been completely amazing and one of the reasons looking into a new home now I said I don't wanna leave North Boone because where she's at is amazing," Matthas said.
