WASHINGTON (AP) -- The deadline for avoiding an economy-rattling fiscal cliff is fast approaching and there's no sign of progress in talks aimed at finding a solution.

Getting there will require President Barack Obama, and congressional Democrats and Republicans to come together on issues that have divided the two political parties for years -- taxes, budget cuts and changes to expensive benefit programs like Medicare. House Speaker John Boehner says significant differences still separate Democrats and Republicans.
