No Flooding Yet in Keith Creek

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Some good news in one Rockford neighborhood hit hard by flooding a few years ago. Thankfully, they aren’t seeing the water levels they’ve experienced in the past. Neighbors in Keith Creek are relieved but still fear a potential flood.
Henry Badker still remembers the Keith Creek Floods of 2006 and 2007, when his four-car garage was flooded. It still stands today, however many other properties do not after the city tore down more than 100 homes to prevent future flooding. Yet, flooding fears still remain.

Right now, the water is flowing and is pretty high in Keith Creek. Neighbors say the water looks to be at least a foot higher than normal.

Angela Coffey and Donnelle Bull also live in the Keith Creek neighborhood. They hope rising waters subside.
“When it flooded a few years ago, we could swim in our basement, it was like a four-foot kiddie pool,” said Angela Coffey.
With more green space to absorb water, it doesn’t look like Keith Creek will see that severe flooding this time around.
The city still has a few more homes to demolish along Keith Creek. The last phase of this project will involve widening the creek.
