SOUTH BELOIT (WIFR) – After nearly two years of discussion, an upscale shopping development could be coming to South Beloit.
The City has done their part approving the project and is now waiting on Hendricks Development Group to lock in potential stores.
The new shopping center would sit on 70 acres of farmland currently off of Willowbrook Road Directly off the I-90 Interchange and they hope to have stores such as Carson Pirie Scott, TJ Maxx, a movie theatre, along with multiple restaurants. If all goes as planned, businesses could be signing on the dotted line as soon as two weeks from now, with ground breaking by this fall.
"Groundbreaking this fall. They hope to have stores, not all of them, but the initial ones opening by next fall as well. It is a fairly quick timeline when you talk about building buildings and having businesses move in,” said South Beloit Mayor, Mike Duffy.
Duffy says it is too early to give a number on how much this will cost and the expected economic impact. That will all depend exactly on which stores come to the area.
South Beloit is also in discussion about the development of two more corners in the area. With the proximity to the interstate and possibly a new casino in Beloit, they expect the center to draw plenty of people.
