New Museum Exhibition Honors Local Astronaut

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – She’s seen things many of us can only dream of and today a Rockford museum honors her memory.

Astronaut Janice Voss went on five space missions during her career at NASA. Only a handful of woman astronauts have done that. Today, the Discovery Center Museum unveiled a permanent exhibition that displays items from Janice’s career. Voss was born in Indiana, but considered Rockford her hometown after attending kindergarten through sixth grade in the city. The Discovery Center hopes the new exhibition will be an inspiration to visitors.

“Our visitors can follow their dreams and achieve their goals by working hard and being inspired by people like this,” said Discovery Center Exhibits Director Bruce Quast.

Janice Voss died in February of last year at age 55 after a battle with breast cancer.
