ROCKFORD (WIFR) --The debate over concealed carry is still alive in Winnebago County, but the National Rifle Association told board members it might be better to hold off.
The NRA says it would prefer a uniform state law over a local ordinance that could confuse things. An NRA spokesman told a crowd of about 50 people Tuesday night that a Winnebago County concealed carry ordinance could create a mess especially since Illinois State Troopers probably won't recognize a local carrying permit. State court cases are currently pending that could change the law for the entire state of Illinois.
Also board members discussed potential revenue from concealed carry permits. They've drafted an ordinance, but have not voted.
