UPDATE: ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Rico Jefferson plead guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm, the day before his jury trial was supposed to start.

The defense says they came to an agreement with prosecutors last night where all murder charges against Jefferson were dismissed. Jefferson was one of three suspects arrested for the murder of 18-year-old Duane Buchanan.

Buchanan was shot and killed at a BP gas station in Rockford in 2012. As for the other suspects, Martell Buckley was found guilty of first degree murder in December. His sentencing is scheduled for later this month. Charges against Russell Jefferson were dropped last year.

We spoke with Rico Jefferson’s mom who says she’s happy with the outcome. We asked Winnebago County State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato about Jefferson’s plea deal, however he couldn’t comment since the other suspect hasn’t been sentenced yet.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- An additional arrest has been made in this spring's fatal shooting outside the BP gas station on Auburn Street in Rockford.

Rico Jefferson is now charged with killing 18-year-old Dwayne Buchanan. Martell Buckley was previously arrested. Rico Jefferson was already in the Winnebago County Jail on an unrelated weapons charge.

Police are looking for a third man, Russell Jefferson. If you have any information on Jefferson’s whereabouts, police ask you to contact them. Authorities say all three men are convicted felons and known gang members.
