ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The recent violence is prompting more local women to take safety into their own hands.
Dozens of women met for 'Women on Target,' a training class at Rockford's Pine Tree Pistol Club. However, this class isn't for concealed carry training hours.
This is the second one this year, where NRA instructors teach gun safety and women can start their shooting practice with handguns and rifles. It's becoming more popular with more recent violence.
"Women are constantly calling me wanting to shoot, wanting to learn how to shoot properly, safely, they want to protect themselves, they're scared. and I don't blame them," says Sandra Franham.
Pine Tree Pistol Club offers the class 3 times a year. The last session is November 16th.
Some other gun shops are allowing people to pre-register for later training, once the Illinois State Police finalizes concealed carry guidelines.
