Momentum Builds for Gay Marriage Vote Next Week

CHICAGO (AP) -- Advocates for same-sex marriage in Illinois say they're ready for a vote next week.

It's been months of energetic lobbying, but there are signals lawmakers may be prepared for a tally after the measure was set aside earlier this year.

Some legislators on the fence have decided how they'll vote. Others are quickly drafting proposed changes so they can support the bill. More activists are demanding action. Even opponents are planning for campaign season fallout.

Legislation allowing same-sex marriage passed the Illinois Senate, but sponsor Rep. Greg Harris said in May there weren't enough House votes. He vowed to bring the issue back.

Lawmakers return to Springfield next week. Opposition has largely been from religious groups who say marriage is between a man and woman.
The bill is SB10
