ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- For some, the holidays can be a pretty lonely time, but, for almost fifty years, the Rockford Rescue Mission has welcomed all to their holiday table.
More than 400 attended the annual Christmas Banquet at the Rockford Rescue Mission today. For the past 49 holiday seasons, the Mission has opened its doors and provided a Christmas meal to anyone in need. Along with a meal, the mission also gave out early Christmas gifts. Children received toys, and adults were given new socks, hats, and gloves. The Rescue Mission says no one should have to go through the holidays alone.
"You know, a lot of people in need. And we're just so greatful to have the opportunity to provide for folks and provide them a good meal today. And just some nice holiday fun,” said Rescue Mission Director of Development, Mick Manne.
The mission says they couldn't have hosted the Christmas celebration for so long, if it weren't for the many people who donate throughout the year.
