ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Congress has been working on ways to cut spending for months and local republicans worry proposed cuts to the military will have a big impact here.
Today congressmen Bobby Schilling and Don Manzullo sat down with a local businessman who's been working with the military for years.
His Rockford company, Supplycore, provides construction and maintenance materials to the government. While there's uncertainty over what will happen to the defense budget, companies are already starting to feel the strain.
SupplyCore VP of Logistic Services Michael Paul said, "People are afraid to hire, people are afraid to make serious business decisions before they know what the impact is going to be. So it affects everything from, jobs to the growth of the business, manufacturing, we don’t know what is needed, we don't know what money is going to be available for various defense needs."
Also getting a tour around supply core today was chairman of the armed services committee, Congressman Randy Forbes of Virgina. He wanted to see first hand how important national defense contracts are for Rockford's economy.
