BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Two congressional incumbents now competing to represent the same district appear in the same room for a luncheon celebrating Abraham Linconln.
Congressman Don Manzullo, who currently represents the 16th district, and freshmen Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who is trying to take Manzullo's seat, both attended the Lincoln Day Luncheon in Boone County. Each Illinois representative claims to be conservative, and when we asked who is more conservative, this is what each candidate had to say.
"The people of Northern Illinois and North Central Illinois are fiscally conservative and we're just sick and tired of Washington spending money that doesn't exist and that's why I’ve continuously been listed as the number one conservative member of the Illinois delegation in Washington," says Congressman Don Manzullo.
"This isn't a race about who is more conservative, it's a race about over the next two years, who is going to be the most effective,” says Manzullo’s opponent, Congressman Adam Kinzinger. “And when you look at me, I’ve been in congress for a total of 13 months and we have a lot of work to do. When I went to Washington, we changed the conversation from how much more are we going to spend to how much are we going to cut and how are we going to pay for things."
23 News also asked the Republicans who they think should win the Republican presidential primary, but neither Manzullo nor Kinzinger picked a candidate.
