Kinzinger and Manzullo Both Appear at Lincoln Day Lunch

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- Two congressional incumbents now competing to represent the same district appear in the same room for a luncheon celebrating Abraham Linconln.

Congressman Don Manzullo, who currently represents the 16th district, and freshmen Congressman Adam Kinzinger, who is trying to take Manzullo's seat, both attended the Lincoln Day Luncheon in Boone County. Each Illinois representative claims to be conservative, and when we asked who is more conservative, this is what each candidate had to say.

"The people of Northern Illinois and North Central Illinois are fiscally conservative and we're just sick and tired of Washington spending money that doesn't exist and that's why I’ve continuously been listed as the number one conservative member of the Illinois delegation in Washington," says Congressman Don Manzullo.

"This isn't a race about who is more conservative, it's a race about over the next two years, who is going to be the most effective,” says Manzullo’s opponent, Congressman Adam Kinzinger. “And when you look at me, I’ve been in congress for a total of 13 months and we have a lot of work to do. When I went to Washington, we changed the conversation from how much more are we going to spend to how much are we going to cut and how are we going to pay for things."

23 News also asked the Republicans who they think should win the Republican presidential primary, but neither Manzullo nor Kinzinger picked a candidate.

Jennifer this district represents just under 30 percent of kinzingers old district. Kinzinger voted to add 209 billion dollars in one year to our debt not very jobs friendly by any account.

What a lazy piece. Just as Scott Brown said in his election, the seat does not belong to one person. This is not "Manzullo's seat" Our congressional seat belongs to the people of the 16th district!

I keep wondering why you report that Kinzinger is trying to take Manzulo's seat. Kinzinger also represented almost half of this new district. Manzulo had maybe 15% more is all! Kinzinger has been on Fox News and all the other news channels and is most certainly a conservative who is also for protecting our milatary. Considering he has been so active and I've never seen Manzulo promoting anything where is the choice? Our unemployment in Rockford would suggest it is Manzulo who is "all talk" and no action.
