MANITOWOC, Wis. (AP) -- The city of Manitowoc has received a $1 million grant from the federal government to clean up properties with environmental contamination.
City Planner David Less says the grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a "great opportunity for the city."
Manitowoc is one of only 13 communities nationwide to receive one of the brownfield grants.
Less tells Herald Times Reporter Media several properties have been identified for cleanup, including a former junkyard, a vacant mall and property the city is taking over from a manufacturer who made coatings for metal.
