UPDATE: On March 21, 2013, Richard Fox pleaded guilty to his charges and was sentenced to spend 4 years in state prison, with extended supervision of 5 years.
This is Fox's 8th OWI.
JANESVILLE (WIFR) -- On 02-03-13 at about 12:33am Deputies from Rock County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an auto theft at 3145 W. Rockport Rd. Dispatch advised Deputies that a Richard Fox, 49yrs of age, from Janesville, just stole a maroon 2002 Grand Prix from this residence. Dispatch was informed that Fox was intoxicated and was last seen driving eastbound on Rockport Rd. towards Janesville.
At 12:42am Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office and Janesville Fire and EMS were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic accident on S. CTH D near W. STH 11. Dispatch received information that the vehicle involved was the stolen vehicle being driven by Fox, and that he left the scene stumbling down the middle of the road.
Upon Deputies arrival in the area they found the stolen vehicle on S. CTH D, in the east ditch, just south of the W. STH 11 overpass. The vehicle was traveling southbound on S. CTH D when it hit the west side guardrail then went across S. CTH D and into the east ditch. Fox was found walking just south of the accident scene on the east shoulder. Fox admitted to Deputies that he took and drove the vehicle involved in the accident. Deputies detected an odor of intoxicants coming from Fox, during their contact with him.
Janesville EMS transported Fox to Mercy ER, where he was treated and released. Fox was subsequently arrested for Operating Motor Vehicle without the Owners Consent, and for his 8th Offense Felony OWI, and was transported to the Rock County Jail. Fox will be held for Jail Court on Monday February 4th for these charges. Fox was also issued citations for Operating After Revocation, Failure to Report an Accident, Hit and Run Property on or Adjacent to a Highway, Too Fast For Conditions and Seatbelt Violation
