UPDATE: 22-year-old Adrain Taylor of Beloit is dead after the car he was driving slammed into a utility pole. His 22-year-old passenger, Special Tume Davidson, was critically injured.
Beloit Police say it happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday on Roosevelt Avenue and Bluff Street. Police say they tried stopping Taylor for speeding, but instead he took off.
Officers did not chase the car. Investigators say he lost control, hitting another vehicle before slamming into the pole. The two people in the other vehicle were not hurt.
BELOIT (WIFR) -- Despite heightened patrols this weekend to prevent deadly car accidents, one man is dead and a woman is fighting for her life after police say their speeding car was ripped in half after slamming into a utility pole.
It happened on Sunday around 2am on Roosevelt Avenue and Bluff Street in Beloit. Police say they tried stopping the car for speeding, but it took off. Officers did not chase it, but investigators say the speeding car then lost control hitting another vehicle before slamming into a utility pole.
Both people, a 22-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were thrown from the car. The man died at the hospital. The woman was critically injured. The two people in the other vehicle were not hurt.
