UPDATE: Shooting Victim Dies from Injuries

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The City of Rockford is dealing with its second homicide in less than a week. An 18-year-old who was shot in Rockford over the weekend has died from his injuries.

On Saturday night, officers found Shaquille Zakery in the 1200 block of South Winnebago with a gunshot wound to his torso. Police say his condition worsened yesterday and as he was being transported to a hospital in Madison, he passed away.

17-year-old Rashod Davis was also shot that night. We're told he's okay.

Police are still looking for suspects in this case. This is the 18th homicide in Rockford since the beginning of the year.


ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Police looking for the person they say shot two people, one in the chest.

The shooting happened around 11:15 Saturday night near S. Winnebago and Loomis Street. Police say when they got to the scene the two victims were already on their way to the hospital. Officers say one was shot in the leg and will be okay, but the other victim was shot in the chest. That person is in critical condition.

Police are still trying to figure out what led up to that shooting.
