MACHESNEY PARK (WIFR) - A federal agency will be providing grant money to the North Park Fire Protection District in Machesney Park to help respond to fires and other emergencies.
According to a press release Thursday, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) says the Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, will provide $46,125.
"As these brave men and women put themselves in harm's way, we must ensure that they are equipped with the best tools possible to do their jobs well, and today's grant will help meet that goal," Durbin said in a press release.
The funding comes from the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Since 2001, the program has provided approximately $5.25 billion in federal funding to help first-responder organizations nationwide buy response and personal protective equipment, training and vehicles.
