BELVIDERE (WIFR) – After 40 years, one Stateline woman will handle her last 9-1-1 call this weekend.

Bonnie Pearson is the longest working employee for the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Belvidere Police Department. She started as a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the area back in 1971.

“It's a way to help people without having to be out there, on the road because I couldn't do that. But being in here, watching out for the public, for the officers' safety... that's what I've always enjoyed,” said Pearson.

Pearson says she plans on spending more time with her family after retiring.
