Local Firefighters Train This Weekend to Better Help Their Communities

DIXON (WIFR) -- Hundreds of local fire fighters are learning how to better help us in an emergency.

Over 200 hundred firefighters from around northern Illinois are attending the annual Blackhawk Fire Fighter's Association Conference this weekend at Sauk Valley College. The firefighters go through training from putting gear on quickly and correctly, to maneuvering through a course similar to the challenges they could face in the field. Instructors are also making sure they get one major point out to the firefighters during training.

Lt. Nick Dinges, Amboy Fire Protection District, says, "It's to promote safety not only within our organization, but also the fire and EMS service as a whole. And again, we want to make sure we are training the people as best as we can to make sure they return home safely to their families."

Around 1,000 firefighters will be attending the Amboy Fire Department Extrication and Fire School for an all day workshop on March 31st.
