FREEPORT (WIFR) -- It's a tough job for first responders that's why residents in Stephenson County chose to honor them with a special monument.
Dozens of people gathered to dedicate a special monument for first responders at the All Veterans Memorial Park. That's on Walnut in Freeport.
The park commemorates more than 13,000 fallen heroes and those that serve our community and country everyday.
One veteran says it's rewarding to see this memorial come to life.
"It's overwhelming to have this park here, and to walk thru and see all the people from stephenson county that have served both in war and in peace time and to see how many of them died in the war and are missing in action," said Gerald Polley, a Vietnam War Veteran.
Each monument honors those that served our country in several wars, including World War II.
