ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Dozens showed up for the 23rd annual Black Family Reunion this year in downtown Rockford. Families enjoyed barbecue, Italian ice and music, as well as a history lesson inside Memorial Hall.
Black history was celebrated today in Rockford with some food, fun and music.
This was the first reunion away from Lovings Lake Park and this year's event was shortened to one day, but organizers say that won't stop the fun.
"It's not the same. It's a change for the good. People have enjoyed it. It's been a little bit of a culture shift but nevertheless, we continue the tradition and we're just going to continue to make it bigger and better every year," says Deetra Sallis.
Organizers expect to see more than 500 people by the end of the one day event.
