Local Church Gets Involved in Transform Rockford Movement

ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Sprucing up some of the buildings in Rockford and getting people out of dangerous living situations are just some of the suggestions coming out of the latest Transform Rockford meeting.

Today members of Alpine Lutheran Church met to talk about their role in the city-wide movement to improve our hometown. Many churches and congregations are already involved in our community so this is a chance for them to come together and work with Transform Rockford to work toward a unified goal. Members have high hopes for the forest city.

"We need to start with the river. So many of the people who are living in poverty are right alongside the river. Especially compared to 10 years ago and I think we can clean it up. I go back to having seen and observed what the city of San Antonio's river was like before they cleaned it up and made the river walk. Big difference and it really helps with the development of the city," Orv Kersten, a member of the church, said.

The next visioning session is Sunday from 2pm to 4pm at the Holiday Inn Express in Loves Park.
