Kids and Violent Entertainment

UNDATED (WIFR) -- NIU Psychologist Dr. Christine Malecki says kids are exposed to too much violence through video games, movies and TV shows and there can be consequences.

"What we see, what we live, what we consume. If it's not limited and if it's not put into context it becomes part of how we think and we get desensitize to things. So I think there is a risk to letting our kids having unbridled access to violent media," Malecki said.

Malecki explains some kids have a really hard time distinguishing fantasy from reality when playing video games. The best thing for parents to do is to monitor what kind of games their kids are playing and entertainment they are watching.

Malecki suggests to set time aside to talk to kids about violence and to set limits on the type of media they kids can be exposed to.
