JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- A judge is scheduled to sentence a 37-year-old suburban Chicago man for killing his wife and three children in the family's SUV as they drove to a waterpark.
Monday's sentencing of Christopher Vaughn comes two months after jurors convicted him of murdering 34-year-old Kimberly Vaughn and their children -- 12-year-old Abigayle, 11-year-old Cassandra and 8-year-old Blake.
There's little suspense about a sentence heading into the hearing in Will County Court. Vaughn faces a mandatory life term for the quadruple-murders.
But the hearing gives relatives a chance to confront the Oswego man and tell the court about the victims.
Prosecutors say the computer specialist planned the murders in advance. They say he saw his family as an obstacle to his dream of starting a life subsisting in Canada's wilderness.
