Janesville Man Facing Life-Threatening Injuries After Motorcycle Crash

JANESVILLE, WI (WIFR) -- A Janesville man is facing life-threatening injuries after a motorcycle crash Thursday night.

The Rock County Sheriff's Office says after 9 p.m., emergency agencies responded to the single motorcycle accident at E. CTH M west of N. Kidder Rd. in Fulton Township. That's about three miles west of Milton.

Deputies say a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle was found in a ditch about 20 feet off the road. 49-year-old Bart J. Schmidt was thrown off his vehicle. He was reported to have severe head and facial injuries. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center.

According to a preliminary investigation, Schmidt was westbound on E. CTH M when he did not follow the sweeping curve. He left the north side of the road and was ejected from the motorcycle.

He was not wearing a helmet. Deputies say high speeds and alcohol contributed to the accident. Schmidt has been arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants.

The accident remains under investigation.
