Janesville Fire Officials Seek Cause of Apartment Fire

JANESVILLE, WI (WIFR) -- Janesville Fire Department officials will return to the scene of an apartment fire Monday morning to determine the cause of a fire.

Crews say before 6 p.m. Sunday evening, they responded to a fire reported in the 300 block of South Academy Street. When they arrived, smoke and flames could be seen from the first floor window. Upon entering, a fire was extinguished near the kitchen counter.

Three out of the eight residents were home at the time. Everyone got out safely -- one exited from a second story window due to the thick smoke.

About $25,000 in total is estimated in damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family at this time. The investigation remains ongoing -- the cause of the fire is not considered malicious or suspicious.
