DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois regulators say they still aren't sure what kind of gas sickened dozens of students and teachers at a northern Illinois school.

But the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency cited the owners of a landfill near Cortland Elementary for a series of violations.

The (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle reports the state agency released an 18-page report on the Jan. 14 incident near DeKalb.

IEPA says they'll work to get an underground sample of the gas that was released.

But the report says no toxic gasses were detected after the release from the Waste Management landfill.

The agency the landfill violated an air pollution law and didn't follow permit stipulations. It was also cited for not burning or treating the gas.

A Waste Management spokeswoman says the company's reviewing the report.
