Illinois Corn Planting Behind Schedule

STATELINE (WIFR) -- More rain is in the forecast and that could be devastating for local farmers.

According to the University of Illinois Crop Sciences Professor Emerson Nafziger, corn that has been planted is struggling to survive because of soil conditions.

As of May 1st corn planting progress in Illinois is at 1%, normally by the end of May 90% is planted. Nafziger says as long as the weather permits and planting is complete by the end of May chances of a good corn crop remain high.
