ISP Warning Motorists to Avoid Traveling Due to Icy Roads

ISP officials urging motorists to stay off roadways due to icy conditions. PECATONICA/STERLING (WIFR) -- Illinois State Police District 16 and District 1 officials are urging motorists to stay off of roadways due to the icy conditions, January 10, 2014.

"We are receiving reports of hundreds of crashes and vehicles that have slid off of the roadways. We have at least fifty calls for assistance pending. We are urging motorists to avoid traveling if at all possible until the roadways can be adequately cleared," said District 16 Interim Commander John Biffany.

The ISP is reminding motorists to keep a winter survival kit in their cars containing at least a cell phone and charger, blankets, and extra clothing, a first aid kit, a flashlight, water, and food in the event they become stranded for any length of time.
