ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Flames reached ten feet high in the 200 block of Lincoln Park Boulevard, near West State and Springfield.
Concerned neighbors called in the fire.
It turns out a man who tore down his garage decided to burn the rest of it and added chemicals so the fire quickly got out of control. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
“We all burn here in the county, but you do it in a fire pit like the rest of us do. You don’t do it in the middle of the woods,” said neighbor Diane Berogan.
It took firefighters about half an hour to get it under control. The man who set the fire was fined $500.
