ROCKFORD (WIFR) – A local business and organization are teaming up to help kids further their reading experience.
Barnes and Noble at CherryVale Mall and the United Way of Rock River Valley kicked off their holiday book drive. For the months of November and December, Barnes and Noble will ask customers to buy a book for children.
United Way will then hand them out through its school readiness and early grade reading programs, which serves kids from the infant level up to third grade.
“We believe that because United Way has positioned itself as an organization that is dedicated to early childhood literacy, that the community is going to step up and come to Barnes and Noble, they understand that it’s important to have books in all children’s homes.”
The United Way is also promoting its I-Read program with Rockford and Harlem Public Schools. They’re looking for more volunteers to read to Kindergarten students. If you’re interested in volunteering, you can sign up by visiting the United Way’s website or by calling the Volunteer Center Director at 815-968-5400.
