An eight year old is sent to the hospital after a hit and run accident on the city's East side.

It happened just after 3:30 near Summit and Crosby in Rockford. Investigators say the little girl was hit by a car while crossing the street. The driver fled the scene but was caught near-by. Rockford police say the little girl is in serious condition. She is expected to survive.

"You have to abide by the speed limit and no one is doing that and no one is watching out for children," said Karen Hernandez, aunt of the victim.
