ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Local veterans are getting an extra push starting their next chapter.
A job fair was held just for them Tuesday. Nearly 150 vets stopped by the VFW Hall in Belvidere to find a job or to learn more about going back to school. About 50 local companies, veteran's organizations and colleges were there. Wayne Wagner, State Commander of the American Legion, say this is a great way to help get veterans back on their feet.
"We've been at several job fairs over the last two years trying to help veterans find jobs, and basically what we are here for is support letting them know of their benefits they have. They are available to them so make sure they are. So they get what's coming to them, what they deserve, what they fought for," Wagner said.
The job fair was hosted by The Workforce Connection, American Legion in Boone County and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
