ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Illinoisans looking to become first time home owners can now get some help from the state.
The Illinois Housing Authority announced 200 million dollars will be set aside for the smart move program. Buyers who qualify for the 30-year fixed rate loan can also apply for money for down payments and closing costs. Just over 150 families across the Rockford area will benefit from the program.
Director of Home Ownership Tara Pavlick said, "A lot of people are fearful right now and people are looking to buy their homes."
The program is also available to veterans even if they've already owned a home.
