LOVES PARK (WIFR) – The Harlem Community Center broke ground on their new hand-n-hand child care center.
Once it’s complete, the organization will be able to provide daycare for nearly 200 underprivileged families and hire more than 30 staff members.
The state is picking up the bulk of the $4.5 million dollar price tag. The community center’s executive director tells us Loves Park was picked due to demand for licensed care in the area.
“There's 3,000 children under the age of five in our area, and there's less than 300 licensed center slots for these children,” said Shannon Scheffel, Executive Director for the center.
The daycare should be open by next spring and will serve kids from 6 weeks old to pre-school.
