Friends and Family Pay Tribute before One Year Anniversary of Freeport Man's Death

FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Jason Veer died June 22nd, 2012 after being struck by a car while riding his motorcycle.

On Saturday, friends and family spent the day riding in the 22 year-old's honor.

The day began at Logan's Bar and Grill in Freeport as registration was open leading up to the ride.

All proceeds of the event were to benefit Daylain, Jason's four year-old son, and his college fund.

"It's really helped me a lot get through all of this because coming up on a year it's been kind of keeping my mind away from what has happened," said Jason's mother Donna Veer.

Following the ride, the group gathered at the Moose Lodge where they enjoyed food, silent auctions, a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle and live music.

"It's kind of hard, but I'm glad," said Jason's friend and organizer of the ride, Kyla Sherrer. "I didn't expect all of these people, but I'm glad everybody decided to come out and pay tribute to him and go on this ride."
