FREEPORT (WIFR) -- A local leader says he's seeking a higher political seat in order to bring more job growth to the Stateline.

Today Freeport Mayor and democrat George Gaulrapp officially announced he's running for Congress in Illinois' 17th district..

Gaulrapp says he wants to bring more jobs to the Stateline and feels he has a better shot at doing that and making our voices heard, if he makes it to Washington.

Gaulrapp says he'd also like to see much-needed road work finished in the Stateline.

"We look at Northwest Illinois and I believe we've been completely ignored; look at Route 20, it's a 40-year project that hasn't been completed," says Mayor Gaulrapp.

You may remember, Gaulrapp lost to long-time Congressman Don Manzullo in the 16th district this past fall.

The 17th district seat is currently held by first-term republican Bobby Schilling.

And who is paying for your campaigning George? THE CITY OF FREEPORT! You know, Gas, free pay while stumping for a new job, food, use of the City's vehicle and lack of attention to Freeport and her citizens. for this guy? N O T
