Freeport Parents Upset Over Butter Knife Bullying

FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Some parents are upset how the Freeport school district handled an alleged knife incident at an elementary school.

Several parents spent the afternoon protesting outside Taylor Park Elementary School. Jessica Beightol says during recess on Monday a boy in her daughter's class chased her with a butter knife and threatened to kill her.

The student was apparently suspended for several days but is now back in class. Many of the parents protesting feel the punishment is not enough and are upset they weren't told about the incident right away.

The other parents weren't notified and their kids were around when it happened. It's something like this I feel like the parents should be notified right away even though their kids weren't directly involved in it. It's still kids being bullied," Beightol said.

Taylor school's principal declined to comment. But says an incident did happen earlier this week that she feels was handled based on the school's disciplinary procedures.
