FREEPORT (WIFR) -- Freeport mayor George Gaulrapp will work his last day in the city’s top position tomorrow. We spoke with him tonight about his time in office.
We also got a chance to speak with mayor elect Jim Gitz about his hopes for the Pretzle City.
"I'm leaving the office with the cupboard full,” said the two term mayor Gaulrapp. “We have a surplus budget. There are not too many communities in the state of Illinois that can say that. I'm proud of that."
"I recognize more than ever that being mayor is a collaborative matter,” mayor-elect Gitz said. You can initiate, you can preside, you can do a lot of different things, but in the final analysis it takes all of us to build a community, and that's the challenge I welcome most is working with other people."
You may remember Jim Gitz was the city’s mayor before Gaulrapp. He served in that position for eight years.
