UPDATE (WIFR) -- Freeport is re-igniting discussions on where city business should be handled.
Mayor George Gaulrapp says moving into the Carnegie Building is the best option. And aldermen will further discuss that next week.
They've been working out of 524 Stephenson Street due to structural problems. The council is still debating what to do with the old City Hall. Gaulrapp says demolition is not an option.
On a side note the city has requested a response from the owner of Lincoln Mall on how it plans to fix roof problems by Friday.
The city hired an engineering company this winter to evaluate the building.
The inspection report shows support beams need to be stabilized. The repairs would cost more than one million dollars.
A special commission did a study in the fall. That inspection estimated renovations to the two floors and attic would cost around two million dollars.
The city of Freeport is currently renting space but that lease is up in the fall.
