Freeport Art Museum to Host Highland Visual Arts Scholarship Exhibit

FREEPORT (WIFR) — The Freeport Art Museum will host an opening reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday to recognize the Highland Community College 2013 Visual Arts Scholarship award winners. This year’s recipients are Dale Kemp, Cameron Holub, Carolyn Miller and Samantha Sanna.

Each academic year, Highland Community College offers a wide variety of scholarship opportunities designed to assist students in their academic studies. The Eduard Buss and Ferguson Fine Arts Merit scholarships are two such scholarship programs designed for full-time Fine Arts students. Students receiving an award in either of these two distinguished scholarship programs must meet specific criteria concerning studies in Music, Theatre, or Visual Arts.

“Their work serves as visual examples of their explorations, answering academic concerns unique to specific studies,” said Robert Apolloni, Highland Gallery director, and visual arts instructor. “To be included in this scholarship exhibit, however, works must go beyond simply meeting required academic standards.”

The exhibit will run through April 13 at the Freeport Art Museum, 121 N. Harlem Ave.
