ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Flu season is upon us. That’s why local hospitals are coming together to help needy families stay healthy.
It may sting for a second or two, but 1300 rolled up their sleeves to get their free flu shots this year.
Nearly a dozen locations around the Stateline helped people get vaccinated most of whom can’t afford the cost of the shot or the risk of getting sick.
“It’s valuable because you’re not only protecting yourself against getting the flu, but you’re also protecting the spread in the community.”
It was as simple as sowing up, no identification was required and guests were also able to get checked for diabetes and high blood pressure.
It was all possible through local donations. This is the third annual free flu clinic which saw triple the number of people from last year. They hope to see even more faces next time.
Doctors say it’s actually impossible to get the flu from the vaccination. If you get sick, it means we already had the virus in our system.
