ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Park District is looking for owners of Border Collies or Australian Shepherds to volunteer their pets to chase geese this spring. The Park District already has two dogs on staff, but because they've been on the job for years, the geese aren't scared by them anymore. By recruiting volunteers, the Park District says it will save $7,000 and make local parks a little more enjoyable for Stateliners.
"One of the things that our citizens that use recreational paths and golf courses continually complain about is the goose droppings on the paths. the goose management program allows us to control the geese,” says Ron Bulter, Deputy Director of Operations for the Rockford Park District.
If you or your dog are interested in volunteering, fill out a volunteer application at rockfordparkdistrict.org or contact Kim O’Malley at 815-987-1608 or email her at kimomalley@rockfordparkdistrict.org.
