STATELINE (WIFR) -- For those families still living within a flood plain, many are already trying to dry out their homes and basement, which is keeping local contractors busy.
Service Master Clean visited more than 30 homes in the Rockford area today, to start cleaning carpets and removing furniture from flooded areas. Some homes could take at least 3 days to dry, depending on the damage. Although more rain is on the way, Jon Ryberg says it’s better to start the process to prevent more water damage.
"One of the problems we're encountering is water is still coming in. we're encouraging people to first check that the source has been addressed, be it the sump pump, window well or whatever, after that get your valuables up off the floor," said Ryberg.
Flood clean-up comes at a price. It could cost some homeowners more than $1,300.
