Firefighter Battle Raises Money for Red Cross

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Eight people are staying in temporary housing after a kitchen fire forced them out of their home Friday. It's thanks to the Red Cross they have a place to stay. Over the years, the organization has helped hundreds of people with food and shelter after devastating fires, but on Saturday it was firefighter's turn to help out the Red Cross.

Firefighters from all around the Stateline showed off their stills and stamina as they raced through an obstacle course as part of the annual Firefighter Battle. They raced to put on their gear, drag a 180 pound dummy, and shoot a target with water.

All of the money raised goes back to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

The event also gave families a chance to make safety plans in case of emergencies at their homes.
