ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Filling the boot, it's a now six decades old tradition that's changed the lives of so many who have had to battle through life threatening muscle diseases.
On Wednesday Rockford Firefighters and The Muscular Dystrophy Association took time to celebrate their 60 year partnership.
The fill the boot campaign started back in 1954. Firefighters nationally have offered up their actual work boots in order to collect money for MDA. The money goes towards research, treatment, day to day support and it also helps to send local children affected by muscular dystrophy to a week long summer camp in Hudson, Illinois.
