Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Sterling

STERLING (WIFR) -- A 20-year-old Dixon man is dead after his motorcycle collided with a car.

From the Sterling Police Department:

The Sterling Police Department was called to investigate a fatal traffic crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at the intersection of E. Lincolnway and 45th Avenue.

Burton R. Lorenzen, 78, of Dixon, was westbound in the left turn lane of E. Lincolnway, turning left onto 45th Avenue, when he collided with an eastbound motorcycle driven by, Brian A. Schrimpf, 20, of Dixon.

Schrimpf was taken to CGH Medical Center by CGH EMS and later flown to OSF St. Antony Medical Center in Rockford via Lifeline Helicopter, where he was pronounced dead. Lorenzen and a passenger in his vehicle were not injured.

An Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Officer responded to the scene, and assisted with accident investigation. The intersection was partially closed to traffic and was reopened at 2:26 p.m. No citations have been issued, and the accident remains under investigation. The Sterling Police Department was assisted at the scene by Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, CGH EMS, and the Sterling Fire Department.
