FREEPORT (WIFR) --A Stephenson County inmate is now in custody after investigators say the man made a daring escape while being moved from the court house back to jail.
The sheriff's department says Hershel Dimill Cobbs was able to somehow roll to the floor and hide under a moving van. Where he dropped free once the vehicle left the sally-port.
It took police more than three hours to find Cobbs. He was picked up through a CrimeStoppers tip on South Adams Street just after 7:30 p.m. Friday night. Law enforcement tell us he was being moved with a group of inmates.
