Residents of Edgemere Terrace near Roscoe, will be given the option to take a buyout on their high flooding land along the river.

Winnebago County recently received a more than two million dollar grant from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency to purchase property from two areas in the county.

But many that live in the neighborhood said they will never sell their land.

"I love it here," said Cyndi Thompson. "It's just part of who I am. I've lived here my whole life. I love the river and I love my neighbors. We're like a big family, and I don't want to leave."

"Well they'd have to offer me the whole $2.5 (million) to leave," said Kevin Armstrong. "I don't want to go anywhere else. Unless they want to buy me a house on the Caribbean."

About $1.5 million will also go toward buying property on Blackhawk Island near the airport.
